James Patterson and Maxine Paetro- 7th Heaven

James Patterson and Maxine Paetro- 7th Heaven (Little, Brown and Company 2008) 4 Stars

When the governor’s son goes missing without a trace and months later a tip comes in regarding his disappearance/death, Boxer is brought in on the case. Yuki is responsible for the trial section and together they must figure out the truth from the lies. Meanwhile someone is burning up the rich of San Francisco and it is getting closer and closer to home for Lindsay Boxer as she tries to solve a case with few leads.

The introduction was really good, it grabbed my attention immediately. It was a pretty intense read; quick like all Patterson novels. It was a good plot, but I felt like he was trying a little hard at times. The characters were decent, but could have used a little more depth. I do find myself wishing that he would focus more on Lindsay, instead of dividing attention between her and Yuki’s trials. The ending was good as well, but I did find myself questioning the likelihood of the way it played out. I would explain further, but that would be a spoiler. Overall it was a good read.

Book Review- James Patterson and Maxine Paetro- The 5th Horseman

James Patterson and Maxine Paetro- The 5th Horseman (Warner Books 2007) 3.25 Stars

When people start mysteriously dying at the Memorial Hospital, despite appearing to be quite healthy, Lindsay Boxer and the Women’s Murder Club aim to get to the bottom of it. The hospital seems content to cover things up and save their reputation, but Lieutenant Boxer won’t let them get away with that. The hunt is on and they won’t back down until they find the killer responsible for these deaths.

This book had a rather interesting introduction. It makes you curious about just what is going on and how the Women’s Murder Club is going to get involved. It kind of went up and down in the interest level for me though; this may be due to the lack of focus. Different storylines intertwining kind of makes it hard to focus and get into any of the storylines. Each one on its own would have been fine, but together it just did not work. The plot was good, with a few twists, but for the most part it was pretty predictable. The characters were well done though; this was a redeeming quality of the book. Overall this is not the best instalment in this series.

Book Review- James Patterson and Maxine Paetro- 4th of July

James Patterson and Maxine Paetro- 4th of July (Little, Brown and Company 2005) 4 Stars

A brutal unsolved murder still bothers Lieutenant Boxer and now there are fresh killings that she is convinced are connected. She must try to hunt down the killers before they strike again. Meanwhile she has a pending lawsuit against her after being forced into a self-defence killing and crippling of two young teens. She is now fighting on two fronts.

This was a pretty good book. Patterson is always a quick read. I enjoyed seeing Boxer work as she tries to solve this tough case, this time without the help of her murder club. The court parts are always kind of frustrating in books, but make for an interesting read. I did wonder whether something like that would even make it into the trial portion. There were certainly some good twists, although not really all that unexpected. The characters were good, but could have been better. I would recommend this series to anyone looking for a good quick read.
