Book Review- Jeffery Deaver- The Burning Wire

Jeffery Deaver- The Burning Wire 4 Stars

Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are back as they take on a killer who is using the New York City’s electricity to murder innocent civilians. They must now find a reason behind the attacks in order to figure out just who is committing them. Stopping them may just be the scariest thing they have ever done. At the same time Rhyme is trying to put a stop to the Watchmaker who is in Mexico. He is assisting the Mexican police force and Agent Dance.

This book had a decent start to it, grabbing my attention immediately. It never really did slow down, although it didn’t hold my attention as well as it went on. I always love the twists he throws in; you know that it will never be the way he is making it seem like it is. It is amazing how he can make things suddenly completely change directions. I loved how the case concluded as well, as it wasn’t really what you expected to see. I especially loved what happened with Rhyme in the last section. The characters in this book are very well done and fit into the storyline perfectly. They have great depth and were realistic. Overall it was a good addition to this series.

Book Review- Jeffery Deaver- The Broken Window

Jeffery Deaver- The Broken Window (Pocket Star Books 2009) 3.25 Stars

Rhyme is still hunting down the killer from The Cold Moon, working alongside British Inspectors. Meanwhile his cousin has just been put in jail for murder. The case seems open and shut, with a lot of evidence pointing at him, but the evidence is just too perfect for Rhyme and Sachs. Their investigation will reveal several other frame-ups and lead them into the cyber world of stolen identities.

The introduction was a little slow and it took me a while to get into this book. Once you get into the heart of the book it does pick up the pace, leading to a dramatic conclusion. I did find that there was a lot of fluff, which dragged things down. I also found some of the situations to be a little unrealistic, sometimes Rhyme comes up with things a little too conveniently. That being said, it was definitely an interesting read, I will certainly be worried about my identity for many years to come. The characters were really well done and I was impressed by how each character was filled out. We just keep learning more and more about this duo and their fellow teammates with each novel in the series. Overall it was a decent one time read and continued the series along, but I do think that Deaver could have done a little better. Now I guess this leaves us with just one question; is this really me writing this review?

Book Review- Jeffery Deaver- The Bone Collector

Jeffery Deaver- The Bone Collector (Signet 1999) 4 Stars

After a freak accident at the crime scene Lincoln Rhyme is left a C4 quadriplegic. Before that he was known as the best criminalist in his field. Now he is being drawn back into the investigative world as a killer, the Bone Collector, roams the streets of New York. Now he must rely on someone else to be his eyes and ears at the crime scenes. Detective Amelia Sachs, although reluctant, is forced to do this job simply because Rhyme has asked for her specifically. They must rush to find the clues before the next victim perishes. How many will die before they figure things out?

The Bone Collector is the first in the Lincoln Rhyme series and I wish that I had started with this one as it helps the reader understand the characters better and gives the reader more background knowledge. It was a little harder to get into as I already knew how this pair ends up in the rest of the series, but this would not have been a problem if I had started with this book. I enjoyed the villain as he was very smart and he was not anyone that the reader would have expected. Deaver is the king of twists and he proves it with this ending. I love this series and now that I know how it all began I am going to enjoy these books more. I did wonder if anyone could possibly know as many stupid facts that are important to the case as Rhyme seems to in every book, but I guess some people just have better memories than mine.

I recommend The Bone Collector and the Lincoln Rhyme series to thriller fans.
